Library Book Sale

ooops this is sideways......well anyway, We went to the annual Friends of the Library book sale yesterday and among the books I bought was this one..copyright 1961. I liked the illustrations and the all wild colors they used on the title! Guess this Santa only goes to the United States!

They had two whole pages showing Santa with a pipe...how politically incorrect! LOL This one is even blowing smoke rings! And on top of that it showed him smoking that pipe IN THEIR HOUSE! LOL

I noticed their sign by the highway advertising the book sale had "Fiends" of the library on it when we went to the river this weekend.....I fully intented to take a pic of it when we came back but by then the "F" had fell off.....Dang fiends of the library! ha!

Pumpkins

I saved seeds from some of the heirloom pumpkin/gourds we bought last year...Here is the one growing in the garden...it is supposed to be a pale yellow when it's ripe. You may be a redneck if.......you have a volunteer pumpkin/gourd vine growing on your deck! ha!

Boat Ramp Visitor/Old Jail Massacre

Had this surprise visitor at the boat ramp yesterday evening.....this was right after I had waded out to push the boat off the trailer.....not liking the snake thing! Trumpet Creeper growing on Old Jail Museum

Stick bug on the pickup after I got done clearing a whole lot of sprouts/vines/etc from the west side of the jail.

Was a pleasant morning to work outside and I got to visit with a fellow retired person......she hasn't gotten any of her closets cleaned out either! Ha!

Things That Are Brown

A cute little brown snail..taken Saturday evening on a table at the cabin. Richard went up to church Saturday morning to do some things to get ready for today. He saw this neat moth so came home and got me so I could take a picture of it.

The girls and grandson went with us to Maramec Spring Saturday morning/afternoon. It was Sarah's idea and she packed a nice picnic lunch for us to enjoy also.

Such a neat place.....I remember going here when I was a child too. It was a nice way to spend some time. Tyler really enjoyed it alot too!

Decor Change

This morning I decided it was time for a change with the front table..and the coffee table...Sunflowers were from our daughter's wedding.. This belonged to my paternal grandmother.....It is in pristine condition, I just don't know what it is! The top lifts off and then the plate would be there..at first I thought it might be something people served honeycomb out of...I guess because of the bee, but I really don't know.

Hammered aluminum tray, also from my paternal grandparents...

I figured these are my "transitional" displays...In a couple of weeks it will be September and I will go with a more "Fall" theme..

Mr/Mrs Big Eyes

My what big eyes you have!

Horsefly on back deck picnic table.

Fun Fungi

Well, I guess these are fungi...maybe they are mushrooms? Guess I should look that up! Anyway, I took this picture Monday in the Mae Yard......... And this is how it looked this morning!

Next two were taken in our yard last week.....in the area under the Pin Oak trees.

Over the past few months I have seen some neat fungi/mushrooms on the way to the cabin....will have to take pix next year!

Sunday Evening at the RIver

I took these pictures at the cabin...these are two awesome things we have decorating the walls! I really like these! Richard and I went down to the cabin yesterday evening and enjoyed being there...

An odd combination...

Little spider on a bush under the deck..

Acorns down by the firepit..

Molly and her "collection" This is something new she hasn't always done..spends alot of time going down to the river and collecting items to bring up...too bad she also brings up good sized rocks, which isn't a good thing when you hit them with the mower! She looks proud!

fern/moss/rock

close-up of the moss..

red berries..

Thought it was fitting that I post about the cabin today....not only because we were down there yesterday, but I am remembering all the good times we have had down there....today would have been my Dad's 82nd Birthday. I think he would be glad that we are enjoying the place..

Foggy Morning

Small little mushroom/fungi? Taken early this morning... I got up early this morning and it was really foggy...heavy dew hung on all the spider webs and looked so pretty. It reminds me of Fall. One thing I am enjoying about retirement is being able to slow down and actually enjoy nature, especially in the mornings when I was usually rushing around getting ready to go to work, fixing lunch, hanging laundry, thinking about what we were going to do in class that day, etc etc

I wonder how long it takes spiders to weave webs like this?

All taken in the Mae Yard.

Makes me look forward to Fall and the changing of the seasons!

Round Spring

The last Spring we went to on the 11th....This Spring was so quiet and peaceful. It's flow isn't a great as the others so there was no sound of rushing water, but I really liked this one too..Big parking lot and nice facilities, but we were the only people there. Nice place!

Alley Spring

Wonderful area around this Spring...and like all the others we visited that day, there just weren't any people around, which makes it even better. I imagine kids would have a good time here as there were lots of different trails and places to explore.

The sound of the rushing water was so neat.....

Peaceful...

Right after where the water goes through the "mill"

Didn't put a picture of it on here, but there is a big mill building there...painted red.

Looking Forward

I went with our daughter and grandson yesterday to his doctor appointment and while they were at the doctor's I did a little shopping! Bought this little deer at Pier One.....I thought he would look cute at Christmas. And I bought this cat for Halloween decorating at TJ Maxx. I so totally did not need either one of these things! And it's really not like me to buy things I don't really need.....but these two I decided to go ahead and get....Not sure why, but I will enjoy them.

Our daughters took a walk along a local river on Sunday and one of them brought me back this pretty butterfly she had found.....so pretty!

I am sure enjoying the cooler temps here....not bad for mid-August!
