I had Emily one day and we made some Rice Krispie Treats....of course she had to put some sprinkles on them!

Seasonal Food

Summer and Winter! Still enjoying the last of the tomatoes from our garden! Only a few left now and we sure have enjoyed them!

Soup I made for my lunch yesterday.....full of vegetables and so good!

A Fun Visit!

We enjoyed a nice visit from my Mom the last two weeks! Wish I would have taken more pictures! Gary, a good friend stopped by for a nice visit....was fun listening to the stories of good times and getting caught up.

We went to see another friend's new place and took a picture of the old place.....sooo interesting! Had a good visit there also....such a peaceful place.

Traveled North some to visit two more friends..sock monkey came along, see him? Isn't their fall display so special?

We cooked quite a bit more than usual while she was here...had different people for dinner different nghts/days. These are the twice baked potatoes we had on our steak lunch day.

Back in town again!

Jack always heads for this little green jar...I keep it on the bottom of that table behind them....the cat food is also right behind them....he decided it would be fun to fill the jar with cat food a couple times..he carries it around and is so proud of it.

I had Mom sit in the front on the way to the airport so she could see the scenery better....sock monkey was looking too...We sure enjoyed having her here..the days passed too fast!

After our good-byes at the airport, we went to the local Conservation Nature Center....MDC always does things up right and it was a neat place. Walking to the car afterwards I spotted an SUV with Nebraska plates...It was bought in McCook, near where my relatives live! Small world!

We ate dinner in Lebannon at this place.....the fish was very good....BBQ was average, but the fish would make it worth stopping there again.

Has been quiet around here since she left....We will look forward to her next visit!

Tuesday Randoms

I have been meaning to get these on here....Sarah makes the neatest "cards" for us for occasions..using the kids handprints or footprints..the first one is my birthday card and the second on was Richard's Father's Day card....I think they are just amazing!

Yesterday we canned 14 quarts of dill pickle spears and 14 pints of bread and butter pickles, pictured here..

Vienna Rocks! If you haven't checked out their facebook page, do it! Ha! What a fun family friendly activity!  I found this rock at church the last night at VBS....decided to keep it as I think it will look so cute at the cabin (inside)  

oh, and I know the artist! 

The rock thing is a lot of fun for people...I know it'll subside some probably when school starts, but hope it continues in some fashion or another....

Busy Day

Has been a busy morning here.........First I stained this awesome picnic table Sarah and Matt got for us for the cabin..

Will put the protective coat on later tonight or tomorrow...I think it looks great!

This is only part of the cucumbers we will be dealing with this afternoon!

Pickles!

We started with  a sink full of cucumbers this morning....after I made a bunch of cucumbers and onions, we started working on making some dill pickles..

Cut a bunch of them into spears..

Trying something different with them....Richard had been told to put a grapevine leaf in with each quart to help them stay crisp.so we gave it a try on four of them...

Water bath for ten minutes!

We made seven quarts...

Canning!

Yesterday was spent fixing up a bunch of cucumbers and zucchini and turning them into sweet relish..So I made two different recipes at the same time. I added red pepper, green pepper, onions and carrots to each...ended up with 8 pints of zucchini relish and 13 pints of pickle relish...

these are so pretty! makes me want to have a hot dog, or better yet a bowl of ham and beans! 

Stocking Up

I had a dentist appt. yesterday and while we were in Jeff we went by Lowe's....In addition to a new kitchen faucet and a new bathroom faucet, we found a good deal on charcoal....they had it on sale earlier with a limit of two, but now it's on clearance and no limit. We bought ten twin packs...it was funny getting it all jammed into the car! The pink jugs are rv antifreeze, which we'll need later on to winterize the cabin..

Ah yes, had to buy a bunch of wood smoking chips too....

We got a lot of laughs and smiles on our way to the check-out and the car! It was pretty funny!

Man's Dinner

When our company was here earlier this month, us girls all went out to lunch one day and Richard cooked dinner for the men here at the house.....steak, baked potatoes and garden corn....looks like a man's dinner, doesn't it?
