Some sort of  decorative gourd or pumpkin bloom...

Sunflower getting ready to bloom...you can see a tendril of a gourd/pumpkin vine climbing up it.

Science in the Yard

Growing out of an old Silver Maple tree in the Mae Yard...probably doesn't say much about the health of the tree! Actually the top is dying of this tree...

When we kept the grandkids a couple weeks ago Tyler and I collected these out of the yard....the bee is neat and we found a green sycamore ball and used clippers to cut it in half...of course it's all dried out now, but he thought it was pretty neat to see what was inside! Sure enjoyed the kids being here that week!

Tomato Bandit

Monday morning I went over to pick some tomatoes....I found Mr. Turtle here munching on this tomato....Look at him now! guess he isn't hungry anymore!

He is keeping his  eye on me! Ha!

I had him in the shade and after a bit he was in the sun....looks like he wants out of there now! Ha! Don't worry, he was only in the sun for a little bit before I set him free!

Sweet Corn Crop

Sweet corn silk....a few weeks ago..

This past weekend was pretty much dedicated to putting up our sweet corn...the laundry basket and the wagon came in real handy...

The first of many wagon loads...we figured we processed around 350 ears....Had a good crop this year!

Mute Monday

Silly Cat

Whenever Richard brushes the dog, there are mounds of dog hair in the yard. This is what Jack likes to do....play in it..lay in it..etc. You can go out hours later and he'll be laying around in the dog fur. I just think that is plain weird! Ha! He is a silly cat!

Sunflower

Early in the week Richard had noticed a volunteer sunflower in the Mae Field. The next evening he took me down to see it....it was near dark and it had already turned back towards the East..so it would be ready for the morning sun. He said I needed to get a picture of it before the guy that runs cattle on the place decided to brush-hog... Well. Guess what happened the next morning first thing? Yep, here came the big green tractor and a brush-hog!  I was bummed it got mowed over and bummed I didn't get a picture of it blooming. And since I like to punish myself, I went down to the field and got this picture of the remains.....there were little bits of yellow petals here and there.....

Cabin Progress

We are making progress on getting things back to the way they should be at the river....we bought a new stove and look at the big dent it had in it when we took it out of the box! Richard called the store and they said they would give him like a $15 discount....we decided that we would just take a new one, so they swapped it out a few days later.....

Floor is still wet from my mopping...

We moved back in some things that had been taken to the old cabin to store while the new floor was being put in...one item was a pine table...I really like this table. This is the marking on the bottom of it. One of the chairs we moved back matched the table and had the same marking on the bottom of it.

Heavy old metal tractor...I should have looked for a brand or date on it..

Vintage Spirograph! Inside was some papers that someone made designs on....I should have looked for a copyright date on this too...

Another vintage game that was in the old cabin....there was also an old Cootie game..

Was great to get some furniture moved back in.....it's starting to look like the cabin again!

Thursday on the River

We had a nice time on the river today...started off at the cabin putting the bunk beds back together...we had to move them out for the new floor...things are slowly getting back to "normal" at the cabin after the flood last August....I really like the twisted old cedars that are on the bluffs of the river...this one is up at Thox Rock.

Pretty clouds today! reflected in the water at Thox Rock....I got a piece of the boat in the picture...oops!

We found this pretty mussel shell when we stopped mid-way through Davis Eddy to sit in the shade....such pretty colors!

old railroad spike near the ramp...left from a long ago fishing expedition..probably was used on a limb line..

Was a nice way to enjoy the wonderful weather we have been having this week!
