The Birds and the Bees

Bumble Bee so loaded with pollen it could hardly fly! Ha! It had been on the Rose of Sharon bushes by the garden....
We cut two loads of low-hanging and generally in the way limbs, sprouts, etc. up at the Old Jail yesterday....Richard spotted this bird nest in that big Osage Orange tree there....
Would be neat to know what kind of bird lived there!

Sunflower

We had a sunflower volunteer right by our garage...Tyler took a real interest in it..even when it was only a few inches high. He has enjoyed checking the progress on it when he is here.....Here it is last Friday...looking for the sun on  a rainy day..
Saturday morning
Sunday morning..

and Monday morning enjoying the sun!
It has been fun to watch it grow and change!

Rising River

These are even more orange in person that the picture shows....they sprout up every year on the road down to the cabin.
Jelly-like things on a declining tree.
Debris in the water..
More debris....we saw quite a bit of things floating down the river....mostly smaller than these..
Looking downriver....
Plenty high already...these were taken Sunday evening....but more on the way for sure...
Sure am glad it's not supposed to be as bad as August 2013 was!

Time to Eat

Here is what I had for lunch Saturday....it was so good....and it's the tomatoes and avacados that made it great! Only thing that would have been better would have been garden tomatoes!
Sunday night dinner to celebrate Father's Day...had a baked potato to go with this!

New Refrigerator

We decided to get a new refrigerator a couple weeks ago....Here is our old faithful one. We bought it in 1988.....still runs great, just some minor issues with it.  I cleaned it all up real good!
It was kind of sad today when the new owners came to take it away....I am silly, I know!
Here is the new one.....I am betting it'll never be that clean again! ha!
We got another bottom freezer model...
I sure hope this new one is as problem free as the other one was!

Tuesday Photo Dump

Yum....pork roasts Richard cooked last weekend for our church's nurture dinner...pulled pork! It was so very good too!
Love these flowers! Lots of them around this time of year..
Picture of part of the garden I took on Monday...it is progressing nicely!
Yikes! A snake skin I found in the "flower bed" in front of the bay window.......This is causing me to rethink how I walk around out there at night!
Took this picture this morning down at the cabin..probably only two inches high...growing underneath a table..
Lots of rain here in Missouri this evening!

Busy Weekend

Richard had told me about this bird nest in the freezer shed....sure would like to know what kind of bird lived there! I think it is just awesome!
Maple sprouts growing in the fork of a really old Silver Maple....freezer shed in the background.
We had a sunflower sprout up where I plant zinnias by the garage...Tyler has had fun watching it grow.
It'll be blooming eventually and he'll really like that!
We got our new refrigerator this weekend!  We got it all hooked up today and I will have to take some pictures tomorrow.....Sure hope it lasts as good as the one we were using....Bought it in 1988 and it's still going strong! We just thought it was time to upgrade. The other one runs fine, but little things like the light doesn't always come on, a small shelf in the door was broken, etc. Hopefully we'll find a new home for it!
It is our tradition that when a grandchild is born, we plant a tree that year....Tyler's is a Bald Cypress...it's maybe ten feet high now....Emily's is a Tulip Poplar that had "volunteered" near our Burr Oak tree, so we moved it the year she was born...it's about three feet high now....So Saturday we bought two Dogwood trees for Jack and Ben.  They are pretty good sized (and half price!) ...will have to find a good spot for them and hope they do well!
And here is the cat early this morning inspecting the new refrigerator! Such an entertaining cat!
