Cabin Anniversary-Part Two

Richard went down very early this morning to check on things...It had gone down some
as you can see by the side of the building....water was still in there and he figured maybe
got in there a foot and a half...First time for everything...right?
I studied on this picture trying to see what things were like inside.....hard to tell.
Even some of it look unfamiliar, I guess because things moved around some??
Little table we used to use to clean fish on....should be ok...we had it up
in the woods! Never thought it would get that high..
We had left that table on the deck..it has  a rather heavy metal base, so figured it
would be ok.......Sure anxious for the water to go down so we can get down
there and check it out better...and then to start the clean-up. Not sure when we
will have water back on down there since the well is also under water...
It could have been worse, and considering it all feel pretty lucky...

Cabin Anniversary

My parents bought a trailer to use at the river back in 1968....August 8 to be exact.
45 years ago.....the old trailer was moved and replaced in the early 90's with our
current cabin.....Has never been flooded...yet.... The first several pictures here
were taken between two and three this afternoon....MODOT closing the highway and
directing traffic....
Bridge closed.
High water....
We had put things up high...but then they raised the crest...We realized
the water would likely get into the cabin this time so we went down to
move things inside up higher...We had to climb down the bluff/hill..Not
an easy walk...then had to wade through the floodwaters to get in..
the down river side of the cabin..
Molly photo-bombing this neat rock formation on our way back
up the bluff hill..
These pictures were taken around seven thirty in the evening....river higher now,
numbers on the pillars not showing.
South end of the bridge....according to the markers here this is higher than the 1982
flood...and was still rising..
Richard took these pictures...neat fog over the river...
Looking upriver...towards Spring Creek..
Taken from the North end of the bridge...
And a pretty sunset to end the day.
Richard is planning on going back over the bluff in the morning...will post pictures he takes...
We are hoping for the best, but have accepted the fact that water is in there. So many people
have so much more worse things to deal with, so not going to complain. We sure have had a lot of
good times down there over the years! Many, many memories....

Mother Nature

We went down to the cabin this evening to secure things in preparation for

the high water....Mother Nature played a trick on us as this big hickory limb
had broken off and was against the cabin....luckily it did no damage...other
than to break our little clothesline. Of course we didn't have a saw with us,
so he chained it to the truck and pulled it away from the building. We think
we are pretty lucky it didn't do any damage!
Large piece of a tree floating down the river....we took this picture while up by the old cabin...We went up there
to move our neighbor's boat and lawn chairs to higher ground.
Molly thought it was all great fun...She even managed to find a bunch
of rocks and lay them around so we could find them another day with
the lawn mower....silly dog!
Looking down river...
Butterfly on the rock walkway
Looks so bare with most things gone.....tied the tables up and now will
hand it back over to Mother Nature for a while and hope for the best...
Pretty sunset on our way back to town....
The high water is not coming at a  good time for us....as we have company coming from two
different states....they always just love it down there, but they may have to stay with us here
in town....either way we will have a good time...They are really fun people and we are
looking forward to seeing them!

Saturday Randoms

We had lunch at this place on our anniversary...it is just outside of St. James.
They were pretty busy with what appeared to be local people...and it
was pretty good!
Window ledge of a building in St. James...limestone...looked pretty neat!
Old Stag sign.
The VBS closing was that night...this is part of their stage display. Looks like
quite a bit of work/planning went into it...looked pretty neat!
What greeted me when I got our mail the other day....
Caused me to jump back...but isn't he a cute little guy?
Richard mowed around this little clump of flowers when he did the ditch....so
glad he left those for all to enjoy!
Taken yesterday...Surprise lillies just say "August" to me! I didn't know until recently
that some people call these "Naked Ladies"
